The Virgin’s Fate

The Fate of the Virgin is an oil on glass painting that depicts the scene in which God the Father appears to Saint Anne, Saint Joachim, and the young Mary, announcing that she will be the mother of the Savior. This work is exhibited in the Room of Painting Under the Cloister and is attributed to a disciple of Luca Giordano, who copied this composition from a period close to the last decade of the 16th century, specifically from the altarpiece the master created for the Roman church of Santa Maria in Campitelli.
