The Weak Point of the Defences

This detail of Frederiksodde depicts the weak spot in the defences. The fortress at Frederiksodde had not yet been finished when the Swedish troops stormed in 1657. On the south-west side of the fortress the wall towards the Strait was lacking, provisionally substituted with several palisades. The palisades did hinder the Swedish advance to begin with, but were eventually forced by sappers.
