Mrs. Craker took her roll film camera when she went with her family to view the wreck of the Rising Sun shortly after it went aground in 1917. The wreck was big news in the rural Leelanau County, Michigan community. Local residents flocked to the beach where the hulk lay close off shore. The hull, fixtures, and cargo were salvaged by members of the House of David, passengers on the boat, and local farmers.
