"The advances of the 19th century were a direct consequence of the collaboration between Casas, Utrillo and other people linked to the ‘Pèl & Ploma’ (Fur & Feather) magazine. In a flyer issued in 1902, it announced the launch of a collectible edition of ‘25 Rajoles Estil Manisses’ (25 Manises-Style Tiles), which readers could purchase for 25 pesetas.
It is the most unusual work attributed to Ramon Casas. Of the 25 tiles, only one offers a direct clue to the author. The tile depicts Casas and Utrillo themselves, accompanied by the words ‘Pèl & Ploma’, the name of the magazine that they founded together in 1899 and which was published until 1903.
Coinciding with the new century, they decided to celebrate the event by publishing this ironic work about the technological advances of the previous century, based on the Catalan-crafted style of tile."
