Because Yoshiwara brothels were destroyed by a fire in late 1845,they opened their business at temporary places in Edo. These pictures were made as an advertisement for them. Kuniyoshi personified sparrows as prostitutes since publishing pctures of prostitutes was forbidden. Personified sparrows created very pleasant images like a children 's story.
