Black and white postcard showing the Theatre Royal in a streetscape of George Street, Plymouth. The theatre formed part of a larger scheme including a hotel with extensive stables, assembly room, club and dining room. An extraordinary development for its time, the complex was a forerunner of modern civic centres. It shouldn’t be confused with the current Theatre Royal in Royal Parade, built 1982.
