Thomas in Armour

Lovis Corinth1925

Museum Folkwang

Museum Folkwang
Essen, Germany

In the year of his death, Lovis Corinth painted his son Thomas. Characteristic for the artist’s late work is a loose brush stroke. The figure is only schematically outlined – the gaze enshrouded by a dark eye area. In this work, Corinth seems to be focusing less on an external representation than on depicting the inner soul of his subject.
