Watercolour of Town End, Grasmere. "The group of houses was on the old main road to Ambleside, south of the village of Grasmere, which included the Wordsworth's cottage. It was once a pub, the Dove and Olive Branch, and only became 'Dove Cottage' long after the Wordsworths lived there. The new main road by the side of the lake, which Wordsworth regretted, was opened in 1836" (quoted from The Illustrated Guide to the Lakes).
