Hu Xiaoyuan collected a large amount of ordinary home-made embroidery and woven fabrics for her work "That Time II." Most of these items were made between the early 1960s and late 1980s, and they mainly consist of curtains, tablecloths, curtains, pillowcases, quilts, and teacups. In that time, daughters were expected to learn needlework, sewing, knitting, and embroidery from their mothers. In the times when life was relatively undisturbed by an over abundance of knowledge and media, styles were guided by personal wisdom and insight. The aesthetic convergence of everyday household items may never again be absorbed into the mainstream, but is certainly worth remembering.
