The more masterfully a Glassblower executes his craft, the more it looks like a game. The hot, viscous Glass mass must be worked quickly so that it assumes its final form within just a short space of time. The playful impression is even greater when the Glassblower works with thread decoration. Here, he pulls hot Glass into a thread and then, before it solidifies in the air, either wraps it around a container in a spiral shape or applies it freely to the side of a container. The depiction of animals and plants on the thread Glass bottle clearly shows the spontaneity of this process. The pattern impressed on the bodies of the birds appears more frequently on Glass from the east of the Roman Empire than from its western part. With its focus on ancient Glass Objects from the Middle East, Glasmuseum Hentrich perfectly complements the other important collections in the Rhineland, composed primarily of rich archeological finds from the local region.
