This work titled, Three buck, bird and snake by the Angolan born artist Carimbwe Katunga (b.1958). Katunga was part of the Platfontein Art Group, a relocated community of !Xu and Khwe people displaced from Angola during the wars of the 1970s and 1980s. They were resettled at Platfontein near Schmidtsdrift outside Kimberley in South Africa and in the 1990s the community were resettled again at Wildebeeskuil. The community consists of two San tribes, the !Xun and the Khwe. “The San of Platfontein” is a collective name used for both the !Xun and Khwe. Short Biography: Carimbwe Katunga was born in 1958 in Mavinga, Angola and was employed by the Portuguese Military as a tracker in the 1970s. Katunga sees himself as a farmer and depict this in his artworks, he includes hunting, gathering and the making of traditional objects as part of the job of a farmer.
