Three Chaldean (Babylonian) captives advance through a palm grove, with sacks containing their possessions thrown over their shoulders. Their ethnicity is shown by their headbands and thick, ropey hair. This fragment is from a set of reliefs depicting the surrender of Babylonians to Assurbanipal, an Assyrian king, after a battle in the marshes around Babylon. The prisoners, accompanied by their children and cattle, are being escorted by Assyrian guards into the presence of the king. (See External Link.)
