Three-panel "Tasparente" with the Three Marys at Calvary

This three-panel (triptych) Trasparente, located at Gate no. 1 at the beginning of Via Stella in Mendrisio, is part of the modern sequence of “gates” that mark the route of the Holy Week Processions in Mendrisio. Created by Pietro Gilardi da Anastasio (1859–1913), the central scene depicts the Three Marys at Calvary: Mary, the mother of Jesus, Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. Like all the gates, it has two sides, intended to be viewed during the outward and return processions, helping to illuminate and accompany the ceremonial path.
