This painting depicts a scene from the well-known anecdote in “The Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms”: Liu Bei succeeded in recruiting Zhuge Liang after paying him three visits.
Zhuge Liang is the one leaning on the desk in the cottage while Liu Bei is the one in red robe, standing in front of the gate, accompanied by Guan Yu and Zhang Fei.
The picture is covered with dull colors of thin black, brown and dusty green. In the smoky atmosphere, the vermilion colors emphasize the existence of Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang.
