Resembling a thurible on exhibit in the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille, France, this thurible must date back to 1160-1165, according to art historian Dietrich Kotzsche. There is some question regarding that dating, though, as other experts suggest this artifact might be a more recent replica.
The cover or topper of this curious piece features three biblical figures from The Old testament: Hananias [Hananiah], Azarias [Azariah] and Misael [Mishael], the Three Holy Youths, who were miraculously delivered from the fiery furnace to which king Nebuchadnezzar had sentenced them for refusing to worship the cult image he had created.
