Purchased at auction in 1992, this large mosaic panel was the last major acquisition Doris Duke made for Shangri La. At the time of its sale, the dating of the panel as a sixteenth or twentieth century piece was controversial. This debate did not discourage Duke, who avidly collected Iranian tilework from the medieval period to the twentieth century (consider the 1938 tile commissions).
