SuchardAfter 1900

Berlin, Germany

Tin cans with their diverse motifs are ambassadors of past advertising worlds. A significant private collection of some 6000 goods containers was added to the DHM in 1994. The image motifs, graphic design and color as well as the product range paint a rich cultural-historical panorama from the late 19th century to the 1960s. The enlargement of the Suchard can seen here exemplifies the production: In the early days, manufacturers used the printing process of chromolithography, which appears as a "dotted" surface.
