Tirano (Portrait of Salvador Robert)

Santiago Rusiñol1894

Maricel Museum

Maricel Museum
Sitges, Barcelona, Spain

"This portrait is of Salvador Robert (Sitges, 1870-1934), one of the citizens living in Sitges who posed for Santiago Rusiñol (Barcelona, 1861- Aranjuez, 1931) between 1893 and 1895. All the people in these portraits were either Rusiñol’s friends or acquaintances; meaning that the artist painted them out of sheer enjoyment, without suffering the stress associated to producing work that has been commissioned.
Rusiñol used the range of greys and whites to transmit the soul of the person portrayed, who is standing and staring at the sheet music with a pensive attitude."
