Sylva, or A Discourse of Forest-Trees and the Propagation of Timber in His Majesty's Dominions was written by John Evelyn and is the first book to receive the Royal Society's Imprimatur. Evelyn first presented a paper on the subject in 1662 to a meeting of the Royal Society. The book is recognised as one of the most influential texts on forestry ever published.
