The Glass dealer Lobmeyr in Vienna was established in 1823 and continued by Ludwig Lobmeyr (1829–1917), who with the company considerably influenced the stylistic development of Glasswork in Austria and Bohemia. The poet and historian Richard von Kralik, who was related to the Lobmeyr family, produced with his design of the Percival series a visual taste of his neo-Romantic treatise Die Gralssage (The legend of the Grail) of 1907. The plate shows the history of the Holy Grail: as a gem in Lucifer’s crown, as a gift from the Magi at Jesus’ birth, as a chalice at the Last Supper and at the Crucifixion and finally its transportation to Britain by Joseph of Arimathia. King Titurel is depicted on the cup, who, in possession of this relic, called together the Knights of the Grail. The service makes consistent use of Medieval style and content. Yet despite all this history, something completely new was created – the epitome of an artwork of the Historismus period. (Dedo von Kerssenbrock-Krosigk)

- Object notes (german): Die Glashandlung Lobmeyr in Wien wurde 1823 gegründet und von Ludwig Lobmeyr (1829 – 1917) fortgeführt, der mit der Firma die Stilentwicklung Österreichs und Böhmens maßgeblich prägte. Der mit der Familie Lobmeyr verwandte Dichter und Historiker Richard von Kralik schuf mit dem Entwurf der Parcivalserie einen bildnerischen Vorgeschmack zu seiner neuromantischen Abhandlung Die Gralssage von 1907. Der Teller zeigt die Geschichte des Heiligen Grals: als Kleinod in der Krone Luzifers, als Geschenk der drei Weisen bei der Geburt Christi, als Kelch beim letzten Abendmahl und bei der Kreuzigung und die Überbringung durch Joseph von Arimathia nach Britannien. Auf dem Pokal ist König Titurel dargestellt, der im Besitz dieser Reliquie die Gralsritter zusammenrief. Das Service verwendet konsequent mittelalterliche Stilzitate und einen mittelalterlichen Handlungsstoff. Bei all dieser Rückwendung entstand doch etwas vollständig Neues – der Inbegriff eines Kunstwerks des Historismus. (Dedo von Kerssenbrock-Krosigk)
