A poet testifies to the genocide of his people in 1909.
A witness testifies the killing of the poet in the following genocide of 1915. Reproduced archival newspaper images testify the existence of a civilization annihilated. Speakers mourn and keep alive an intellectual and artistic past that refuses to perish. Nigol Bezjian’s Witness.ed challenges the viewer to be both witness and witnessed. Witness.ed is inspired by the work of Daniel Varoujan (1884-1915), an Armenian poet. Aztag Weekly was one of the 600 and more Armenian media publications in Turkey prior to 1915.
