This button is an example of one of the many Foundling Hospital tokens - small identifying objects left with babies on admission to the Hospital. The token collection includes coins from over twenty countries or states, indicating Britain’s extensive trading capacity and the cosmopolitan nature of London’s society during the eighteenth century.
