Toki (Adze)

Toki. Adze. Multipurpose tool used for carving wood and other materials. Carved from basalt toka (stone). Dark grey in colour. Quadrangular in cross-section. Cutting edge is sharp. Bevel is concave. Sides are steep. Front of the blade is flat and highly polished. Prominent shoulder. From shoulder toki is reduced towards butt. Butt and poll are pecked and flaked. Overall surface treatment is mostly polished.
