TOKYO, JAPAN Urban Wild Ecology

The Great East Japan Earthquake and the consequent accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant made us aware of how much the support for our daily life affects the entire planet. We began to look at the link between materials and energy related to daily life, such as household goods, homes, food and waste. We started to try to reinvent life from one that was dependent on infrastructure and industrial society to another relationship: off-grid homes that generate solar power, gardens that utilize the power of microbes in the soil, share-houses that use vacant buildings, and voluntary construction using discarded materials. By utilizing the resources of the city that have not been utilized until now, the ecological life of the city has been created. The wildness that survives the city does not yield to the environment that is being polluted and destroyed, but enjoys the fluctuating life and overcomes inconvenience. We introduce the collectives of these Urban Wild Ecology activities along with the keywords of its resources.
