The Man from Snowy River (1982) directed by George Miller.
Based on Banjo Paterson’s poem The Man from Snowy River, this iconic Australian western set in 1880 reaches its climax and resolution with a dramatic chase – as stockmen pursue a herd of wild brumbies through the Australian Alps. ‘The downhill shot is Tom Burlinson’ explains stills photographer David Parker. ‘The trees were rigged at an angle and the cameras tilted to make it look steeper – I had to do the same thing with the stills!’ Over forty expert horse riders were employed on the film, including five stunt riders for scenes like the dangerous river crossing.
