Richmond, United States

Albert Lybrock (1827-1886) designed a cast iron Gothic Revival style structure, now known to our community as "The Birdcage" to protect the tomb of James Monroe (1758-1831), the fifth United States president. Monroe died on July 4, 1831 and was buried in New York City. His remains were reinterred in Richmond's Hollywood Cemetery in 1858.
