This piece was among Robert Gordy's favorites and was always displayed in his home. The subject was drawn from a very personal source. Gordy once said about the work, "That's a subject I have worked with for about twenty-five years. And it really started when I lived in Mexico. There was a mountain on the way down to Mexico City off on one side of the road, by itself, in a very flat area that looked like a reclinging female figure. I did some drawings which really had to do with my own insomnia and so, in a way, the image became autobiographical. And, quite often in the paintings, I think of the female image as essentially an autobiographical image."
