A topknot cover was worn over a topknot in the Joseon Dynasty. It was made of a variety of materials including hemp cloth, wood, bamboo, leather, ox horn, rhinoceros horn, or paper. It was generally used since it was considered impolite to show the topknot in Joseon Dynasty. It was accompanied by a small hairpin so that it can be fixed on to the topknot.
