Although similar cloths for hanging on walls were made in the Ottoman Empire for Muslim usage, it is unlikely that this example was one of them. The composition does not reflect the suspension of lamps in a mosque as seen on prayer carpets and wall hangings. Instead of a large lamp suspended from the central arch, two small lamps appear in the side arches and one in the band below the main composition.
These curtains appear to have been produced in many cities of the Ottoman Empire.
