Joannis Avramidis studied in Vienna where he settled permanently and became a leading figure in the arts. He taught at the Vienese Academy of Fine Arts. The creative dialogue between the past (eg archaic sculpture) and the contemporary visual searches holds a central place in his artistic work. He pays special attention to the technique and materials, he transforms the human forms in a kind of cylindrical column with curved flares and pits, horizontal stripes and parallel incisions. Symmetry, abstraction, density of the shape, harmonious coupling of the volumes and the imposition of an organic rhythm contribute to the archetypal character which the sculptor wishes to give to his forms.
