Torso of male, Pan

National Museums Liverpool

National Museums Liverpool
United Kingdom

Torso of a young male, well muscled with lower arms and most of the legs but missing the head and neck. The chest, abdomen and groins are well articulated and detailed as is its back with the shoulder blades, deltois and the spine. The left hip and the right shoulder are lowered in what appears to be a chiastic arrangement of the body. The left leg moves forward while the weight of the body is on the right one. The torso lacks its attributes and cannot be easily identified as a Pan.
The shiny surface of the torso may be from acid cleaning. The torso may have come from the private context of a villa.
