The Greek goddess of love Aphrodite was first depicted completely naked by the sculptor Praxiteles around 340 BC. His “Knidia” soon gained world-wide fame and was widely copied and modfied. This Roman copy traces back to the late Hellenistic type of the “Venus Medici”.
