Toshigami (or Toshitokujin) are New Year's decorations that welcome the god of the year. It is also called Toshitoku-san god. This display is modelled on Kawahara-cho's custom. During New Years, Japanese prepare this decorated altar. At the center of these decorations, a wooden container is placed above two rice bags. Twelve cups of rice (signifying the twelve months of the year), kachiguri (chestnuts), mikan (mandarin orange), konbu (dried seaweed), tazukuri (dried sadines), kushigaki (dried persimmon), and money are also placed inside the wooden container.
