TOT Mutual Aid Xmas tin, given to company employees in the Services during the First World War

During the First World War, many members of the Underground group staff joined up and served in the forces. This small presentation tin was given to serving company employees for Christmas 1916. On the outside is a portrait of Earl Kitchener, the Secretary of State for War, and on the inside, the inscription 'T.O.T. Mutual Aid, Xmas 1916, with the compliments of the season, Electric Railway House, Broadway, Westminster.' T.O.T. (Train - Omnibus - Tram) was the umbrella name given to all the staff societies within the Underground Electric Railways Company of London Ltd (U.E.R.L.). The Mutual Aid fund was set up by the T.O.T. to help provide financial support to employees and their families during difficult times.
