Tourists at Darjeeling station

The 139-year-old Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was granted the UNESCO World Heritage status in 1999, in what was a giant boost for conservation efforts. It also led to a rise in passengers on the railway besides, helping Darjeeling secure its position as eastern India's most popular hill station.
