Due to its geostrategic position, the Golubac Fortress was among the most important military border fortifications. It was of the greatest importance in the wars of the 14th, the 15th and the first half of the 16th centuries, when the Danube was first the border line between Hungary and Serbia, and then between Hungary and the Ottoman Empire.
