About the Work: Daniel Senise's work is a combination of iconography
and complex background which results in paintings that
are both abstractions and figurations. The iconography
in Senise's pieces is enigmatic, cryptic and non-narrative,
as in the case of Tower of Song / Torre de canción, a
painting of death and mourning where one of the most
significant elements is a crown of thorns floating on top
of what seems like a mountain landscape or a desert
dune, with the epitaph “dedicado a Leo” (dedicated to
Leo), a friend who died the same year the painting was
made.
