In 1998 NASCAR celebrated the 50 anniversary of its founding by Bill France Sr. and others. The anniversary inspired limited-edition die-cast models called line of 24-K Gold-Plated Commemorative Series. As the series' name implies, each model was painted gold and produced in limited numbers. Fans of auto racing collected gold models of the cars their favorite NASCAR stars drove.
