Murray Bacon patented the first electric toy train made in the United States in 1884. Three years later, Carlyle and Finch manufactured the first electric-powered train, and several companies followed them into the electric toy-train business. Americans liked best the toy trains manufactured by Lionel, Ives, and American Flyer, and these three companies accounted for a large proportion of the trains kids played with in the 20th century.
