In 1904 phonographs were still a novelty. Though its product had been introduced only a few years earlier, the Victor Talking Machine Company achieved rapid success after opening its doors in 1901. The company offered the first widely available phonograph record players, priced for the average American pocketbook. As the popularity of the phonograph swept the country, the company sustained its popularity by producing both the machines and the records they played. Victor set the standards for recording format and became the most prominent name in the business. Emblazoned with the company's logo and Nipper, its trademark pooch, this easily recognizable pamphlet advertised the latest records manufactured in the popular seven- and 10-inch size for the Victor phonographs. Featuring such popular singers as Broadway star Bill Murray and legendary opera singers of the day, Victor records spanned the gamut of popular styles, from band music played by Victor's own band to popular songs and even well -known arias from the world's greatest operas.
