Jacket and vest in blue velvet decorated with black braid and filigree buttons. Knitted shorts with side openings that fasten with buttons, and a braid finished with tassels to fit them at the knee. The belt is a vibrant pink color.
This is the stereotypical Spanish outfit of the first half of the 19th century, with theatrical origins in the school of bolero. It can also be considered a predecessor of the current bullfighter’s ""Traje de luces"" (suit of lights), both in terms of decoration and the fit of the shorts. The short, fitted jacket, which is heavily decorated and has no buttons, is known as a Marseille.
