This is the root of a creeper that is common in the highland parts of marakwet. It is cut in small pieces, then mixed with water and stirred. A full cup of this should be drunk and the effect in the patient will vomit. One disease that can be cured this way is malaria, according to Arap Kositet (born 1925).
