About the craft: Manganiyars are hereditary communities of traditional folk musicians living mostly in the Barmer and Jaisalmer districts of western Rajasthan. Their music has survived decades owing to the Jajmani system which is fundamental to their art form and also a source of livelihood. The repertoire of Manganiyar music covers qawwali, sufi songs, bhajans and songs on life cycle, rituals, festivals. The community's identity instrument is the Kamaicha.
