The first chocolate mill in American opened in 1765. James Baker acquired the business in 1780 and he later shipped liquefied chocolate via the New Haven railroad to New England. Baker's Chocolate often sent the product in special tank cars emblazoned with the company's trademark and the emblem became familiar to those around New England, including employees at the New Haven toy train factory. American Flyer released its Baker's Chocolate tank car in 1959.
