Postcard, Freetown - Waterloo Excursion, by Lisk-Carew Brothers, Real Photo Card, Freetown, Patronized by HRH the Duke of Connaught, depicting steam train passing over Nichols Bridge, marked on reverse 'Cpl Swain, 2061676, 6 West Way, Brighton Road, Lancing SX.' Passenger excursions to Waterloo were a feature right from the start. The first excursion to Waterloo took place on 1st April 1898, when that section of line was declared complete. Public excursions to Waterloo were run on Good Friday and Easter Monday that year, April 8th and 11th, the fares being 1s/6d. single and 2s/6d return. This postcard is part of the collection of the Sierra Leone National Railway Museum which was founded in 2004. The Museum is based in Cline Town, Freetown, Sierra Leone and tells the story of the construction, development and operation of the railways in Sierra Leone.
