Traitors' Gate, looking south.

Built as a new water entrance to the Tower of London for King Edward I (1239-1307), the gateway forms a part of St Thomas’ Tower. Originally called the Water Gate, this gateway is now known as Traitors' Gate because of the number of prisoners accused of treason that were brought to the Tower through it.
