Part of the Historical Relics Collection, these are reported to be the first tickets issued to passengers on Adelaide Electric trams which began to run to Kensington on March 9th 1909. The Municipal Tramways Trust took over Adelaide's street horse tram system in 1907, thirty one years after the system was first established. A total of 163 horse cars on fifty one miles of route, were operated by the Trust until replaced by the elctric tramcar system in 1909.The first trip carried VIPs and the families of the Municipal Tramways Trust dignitaries. These tickets were probably kept by children to celebrate the great significance of this trip. The tickets are a significant reminder of a changing travel system which was an integral part of Adelaide life and was used by a large proportion of the city's residents and workers.
