This remarkably small "Joan" unit of the Joan-Eleanor System, used for communication between an agent on the ground and an airplane flying overhead, came from the China-Burma-India theater of operations. The Eleanor unit was in the airplane. It was capable of voice transmission, and had recording capabilities. It is named after the wife and girlfriend of the two designers.
