The Transporter Bridge over the River Tees was engineered by GC Imbault of the Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Co Ltd and built by Sir William Arrol and Co Ltd of Glasgow. Constructed in plated and riveted steel, it features tapering towers supporting trusses that carry a carriage suspended on steel wire ropes. The bridge was opened in 1911 by Prince Arthur of Connaught.
