"Travelogue. Stories of Journeys, Migration and Diaspora" temporary exhibition

"Travelogue. Stories of Journeys, Migration and Diaspora", the temporary exhibition curated by Katya Inozemtseva and Sara Rizzo, which opened at MUDEC in 2025, reflects on the different meanings of travel.

The Theme is explored from material, mythical, and metaphorical perspectives. The objects on display range from artifacts collected by enthusiasts and researchers –as in the case of the MUDEC collections– to means of transportation and “souvenirs.”

The movement of people across geographical boundaries is a key aspect of cultural exchange, the study of human societies, and, since the early modern period, the global circulation of goods and objects. Sometimes travel is necessary, as in the case of nomadism, migrations, and diasporas, which are also represented through the interpretation of contemporary artists.

But travel is not only a physical condition; it is also a state of mind that allows us to reach “other” dimensions through study, meditation, and the use of psychotropic substances. Finally, travel journals show us how travelers throughout history personally reconstruct the narratives of places, people, and experience.
